Ashley Sánchez is an experimental film and theatre artist.
They were born and raised on occupied Kumeyaay Land (San Diego, CA).
Growing up in a town shaped by borders, they remain curious about the relationship between oral history, nationalism and propaganda.
Regardless of how these variables intersect, they inevitably inform our shared reality and personal mythologies.
With this in mind, they maintain a focus on themes such as our ancestors and modern day communities.
Their interest is rooted in work which investigates:
alt-education, borders, clowning, movement, ritual, surveillance and translation.
They aim to continue making theatre that lives and breathes outside of traditional institutional spaces and proves accessible to the public.
They graduated from CalArts (BFA Acting) and are currently living on occupied Gabrieleno Land (Los Angeles, CA).
